The Perspectives in Medicine campaign is relaunching and accepting new story submissions.
Medical students and professionals can
share their experiences through stories, poems, or other forms of expression with the community, whether they are stories of triumphs, failures, hardships, or whether they spark inspiration, reflection, a laugh, or a cry. These stories help build community, fight stigma against mental illness, and remind each other that it's okay not to be okay.
We are excited to hear your stories.

COVID-19 has brought upon a challenging period of uncertainty and anxiety. The Perspectives in Medicine initiative invites you to share your experiences and perspective during the pandemic. Submissions will be shared in an upcoming COVID specific journal instalment. You can submit your COVID-19 stories above at the "Share Your Story" tab. Please note, our regular PiM stories are also still continuing during this time, and we are encouraging more submissions for these too! Thanks and stay safe!

Failure. Loneliness. Imposter Syndrome. Burnout. These are just some of the difficulties that we face during our education. We are expected to save lives. We are expected to be leaders. We are expected to succeed. As a result, we’ve internalized these high expectations. But sometimes we need support. Sometimes we need time to heal. Sometimes we struggle with our own mental health. In March 2020, OMSA and CFMS will be launching “Perspectives in Medicine'', a Canada-wide campaign where medical students and professionals can share the personal difficulties they’ve faced and how they’ve coped with these challenges. This is an opportunity to connect with each other and to fight the stigma against mental illness. It’s an opportunity to spark conversation within the community. It’s an opportunity to remind ourselves that it’s okay to not be okay. Whether through a story, poem, or an artistic medium, we want you to share your own narrative and to remind you that you are not alone — we’re in this together.

Throughout each day of March 2020, we will be highlighting the challenges and difficulties that medical students and professionals have experienced during their education. As a continuation of the project, stories will be collected throughout the year after March 2020 and a new publication will be released each semester sharing untold stories that individuals have regarding their own personal struggles. These stories will be shared through a new “Perspectives in Medicine” journal launching in September 2020.
